Malachi 1
God loves Israel, but the Israelites do not act like it. Instead, their priests merely go through the motions of sacrifice and offerings, giving God unacceptable items. If given to governors or officials, these offerings would be completely unacceptable, but they offer it to God as if he will accept it. God is not pleased with these sacrifices nor the actions of the priests.
Our worship and giving is an indication of our character. The priests showed a complete lack of character and disregard for God’s own character with the sacrifices they allowed on the altar. They went through the motions, but their heart was not in it. The same goes for the people who brought such sacrifices. They dishonored God. For those who honor God, they will bring what is required, which is their best. If we know no one else wants our sloppy seconds, surely we must know that God does not want them either.
