Ezra 5-6
After hearing prophecies from Haggai and Zechariah, the Israelites resumed their work of rebuilding the temple. The prophets stayed with them to make sure the work continued and to be a constant encouragement. This, of course, sparked controversy with those who had tried to stop the work. At this, the elders reminded them of Cyrus’ decree that allowed them to do this work. After sending word back to King Darius, they found the original decree. Upon reading it, Darius decreed the work continue, be supported, and cursed anyone who dared to interfere. With both God and the king’s blessing, Israel completed the work and dedicated the temple and observed the Passover.
God ordained the work of rebuilding the temple as he moved Cyrus to have it rebuilt. The voice of the prophets reminded Israel of this. When we face difficulties, roadblocks, and discouragement in our God-given tasks, we must look to him for hope. Both Haggai and Zechariah reminded the people who God was and that he called them to this work. In the same way, we need to stay close to those people in our lives who will remind us of God’s truth and constantly preach it to us. When we do, we are better equipped to continue & complete the work God has given us.
Do you have people in your life who will encourage and remind you of God’s promises?
