Nehemiah 12
With the walls of Jerusalem rebuilt, the only thing left to do was to dedicate the finished work back to the Lord. To do this, Nehemiah gathers the Levites to the city walls. The Levites divide into two choirs, one heading south with Ezra, the other going north with Nehemiah. There is much singing and sacrifice to the Lord at this event.
Israel knew it was impossible to do this work on their own, especially as quickly as they accomplished it. They knew it was the Lord who provided protection and success. This was the reason for their celebration. In the same way, we must recognize that God is the one who provides and sustains us in all the work we do. So, we must continually bow down in worship to him for allowing us to do those things. That is our only right response.
Do you give thanks to the Lord for the work he’s allowed you to do?
