Matthew 5
With a large crowd gathered, Jesus went up a mountain, sat down, and began to teach. Jesus first explains the character required to enter the kingdom of God, which are best known as the Beatitudes. From there, Jesus teaches on the Law and how it is a matter of the heart and not actions alone. Instead of lowering the standard of righteousness, Jesus elevates it.
The goal of God’s law isn’t to see how much we can get away with and still be good with God. Nor is it about getting as close to the line as possible without crossing it. No, it is about walking in obedience and loving God with our heart and actions. We should do everything with a heart to please God. This includes teaching others to obey and walk in God’s ways. This is the heart of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and to be one who belongs in the kingdom of God.
Are you teaching others to walk in obedience to God’s commands?
