2 Samuel 3:1; 5; Psalm 23
After seven years of being king over Judah, the rest of the tribes make David their king. This takes place after the assassination of Saul’s son Ish-bosheth. As king, David is able to remove the Jebusites from Jerusalem and established that as the capital city. Then God continues to give David success over the Philistines.
We do not know when Psalm 23 was written by David, but it shows the comfort and peace he has in God. He knows that God will guide and protect him and has given him rest.
It is here that we once again see the faithfulness of God on display to keep his word. It was many years prior that David was told he would be king. He did nothing to secure it on his own, trusting God the entire time, even while fleeing for his life from the current king. Now, God has fulfilled his promise and given David the kingship. The God we serve is one who keeps his promises, and that is money we can take to the bank.
Do you trust God to keep his promises? How is the Lord shepherding your life right now?
