Philippians 1-2
Paul writes to the Philippians church from jail. This church supports Paul and serve as an encouragement to him. He writes to thank them for this and to give an update. As a result of his imprisonment, the gospel is advancing, which strengthens him to keep going. But, he also wants to encourage these believers to stand firm in their faith, to continue walking upright, whether or not he comes to see them.
One thing we have to remember is our faith is lived before God, not others. He is the one we must aim to please. That means, whether or not people are watching, that should not determine our actions. We must live knowing that God is always watching. With that in mind, we walk worth of the gospel and adopt the same attitude & character as Christ. That means living as a servant who is humble and obedient.
