This is Luke’s account of the events that happen immediately after the resurrection. The first report of the resurrection comes from the women, but the disciples disbelieve. That same day two disciples were on their way to Emmaus. As they talked, Jesus appears to them and joins them on their journey. He explains Scripture to them and reveals himself during dinner. Immediately they run to Jerusalem to tell the disciples. While there, Jesus appears to the disciples and opens their minds to understand Scripture & the prophecies concerning the Messiah.
If we want to understand Scripture, there are two things we need to do. First, we must read it and be well acquainted with it. Second, we must ask God to open our minds to understand it. The disciples were familiar with Scripture from their youth. But, it wasn’t until Jesus opened their minds that they fully understood it and how it all pointed to him. We must pray for this same understanding every time we come to Scripture so that we can live the life God has called us to.
Do you regularly ask God to help you understand Scripture?
