Hebrews 11
After writing about Jesus’s perfect sacrifice and its implications for our lives, the author gives us examples of people who walked by faith. He begins with Abel and walks through the Old Testament scriptures. At each point he shows how these people trusted in the promises God made. None realized the ultimate promise in their lifetime, but they trusted in the God who made the promise. And he proved faithful. For each, their faith approved them before God.
We cannot please God without faith. It is essential to our relationship with God. If we are going to strengthen our relationship with him it requires trust in who he is and that he is able to keep his promises. Everyone listed in chapter 11 was looking forward to Jesus. We’re seeing his work in the rear view mirror. But we still place our hope in Christ’s return and the resurrection. And if we do not have faith that God will fulfill those promises, our faith is meaningless.
